Best Child-Safe Window Treatments

Here are three ways to choose the best child-safe window coverings for your home.

Cordless Window Treatments

Shutters by nature are cordless (and also the most durable), while shades, blinds, and drapery can be made so. Some options include cell, roller, and roman shades. Cordless horizontal blinds would operate the same way you raise and lower a shade, and vertical blinds would use a wand.

With curtains, you could opt for static drapery panels on either side of your window or to have them run along a rod instead of using a cord to pull them across the window.

Motorized Window Treatments

You can operate motorized window treatments from your phone, remote, or other smart home device. Motorization eliminates the need for an operating cord and even wand, in the case of drapery and blinds, which would, even cordless, still require a device that allows you to maneuver them. Secure Window Covering Cords

Products that do traditionally come with cords will also include what we call a child safety. The safety locks the cord into place by anchoring it in to a wall, keeping it taught so that it will not swing freely.

Folks without kids sometimes opt out of the child safety, but in homes with young children, it is essential to employ it and prevent the cord from dangling loosely (and in reach of small hands).
