Real Homes: Bypass Window Shutters in Pleasanton

Have you heard of bypass shutters? Often, sliding glass doors are covered by vertical blinds or a slide-vue. However, for those who like the look of plantation shutters, the bypass shutter offers an option to cover your sliding glass door.

Bypass shutters usually consist of several shutter panels mounted onto a track above your window. The panels will slide on the rail and stack neatly on the side of your choice.

The only thing to note and consider with shutters is that when installing, we may need to remove a bit of the trim or baseboard to accommodate the shutter frame. (Don't worry; there won't be any gaps!)

Here is a project we recently did in Pleasanton, featuring two sliding doors with bypass shutters, as well as regular composite shutters with the Ridge Deco 3'' frame in Pure White by Norman Window Fashions. Scroll to the end to see the results.

A Window-ology installer hoists a bypass shutter frame to the top of a sliding glass door. He is framed by the legs of a blue ladder between which the viewer looks.
A beige tool bag sits on a sapphire-blue chevron blanket. The bag sags from the weight of the screwdrivers, pliers, and other tools. The blanket is on the floor, covering the hardwood and a floral rug.

The large bypass shutter frame in the foreground leads the viewer's eyes to the installers' hands. One pair of hands tightly holds the frame in place, while another pair of hands uses a power drill to screw it together.

Light streams through the bypass shutter panels in the master bedroom of a home in Pleasanton.
Light enters a room painted a sea-green color. The window has a double panel shutter mounted into the frame.
A movie theater room features a bright red wall with a director's clapboard and popcorn wall decor. The only window features a double panel shutter.
